HISTORY OF THE ROSSLAND ROTARY CLUB
Founded in 1951, Rossland Rotary has contributed to the Rossland community for years, using our time and some money to create or upgrade key community assets such as the Rossland swimming pool, Rossland Historical Society and Museum, Golden City Manor Society, Rossland Library, Centennial Park, Rotary Health Center, Mater Misericordiae Hospital emergency room entrance and orthopedic clinic, the Rossland Miner's Union Hall, Nickleplate Rotary Park, Jubilee Park, Mac Lean Elementary School, the Rossland Skatepark.
Since its founding, the Club has provided scholarship funds for students to seek education after high school. Rossland Rotary has made it possible for many Rossland adults and youth to participate in various Rotary programs. Some programs allow community members to visit or live in another country (Rotary Youth Exchange, Rotary Group Study Exchange). Other programs focus on youth education and leadership skills (Adventures in Citizenship, Adventures in Technology, Rotary Youth Leadership Program, guidance to Rossland Interact Club). Rossland Rotary has supported Rotary Youth Exchange every year since we were founded in 1951.
Rossland Rotary has contributed to international programs. We regularly apply for grants through Rotary International that allow us to multiply our donations. We host visiting Rotarians from around the globe, enriching our community and sharing with the worldwide Rotary community. International project contributions include Polio Plus, Tegucigalpa Market Children, sanitation in India, temporary housing (through the Shelter Box program) for people in earthquakes, and Rossland Rotary Interact Club's international projects. The Shelter Box temporary housing program contributions have aided people in earthquake disasters in the Philippines (tsunami & earthquake), Haiti, Pakistan, East Africa, and Nepal (7 Shelter Boxes from the Club and community fundraising efforts went to Nepal in 2015). Through Club members' donations to the Rotary Foundation, Rossland Rotary has supported Rotary International's work, grants and fellowships around the globe.
